Chianti is another name for Sangiovese wine made in the Chianti region of Tuscany, Italy. These wines have many classifications based on region and aging requirements. Like Champagne, these wines typically go by their region name. The varietal is often not listed on the bottle. Only those wines made in the region can be called that. Sangiovese is known for its unique flavor profile of cherry, plum, leather, and tomato. Sangiovese is grown all over Italy, and in parts of Washington State, California, Australia, and Argentina. These wines can be cellared for over ten years. Before serving, decant for at least 30 minutes. Pair with pasta, pizza, spaghetti, and beef. With a high acid wine like Sangiovese, be sure to pair with high acid foods.
